Become GMAT Master with SSSi: Your Complete Guide to Achievement

Why GMAT?

The most widely accepted standardised test for admission to business and management studies across the globe is the Graduate Management Admission Test, or GMAT. The Graduate Management Admission Council, or GMAC, designs and makes it available. It tests the analytical, writing, quantitative, verbal, and reading skills of the candidates in written English to gauge fitness to be admitted to a graduate course in management, for example, an MBA.

Taken by over 2,300 schools and over 7,000 programs globally, GMAT is an obligatory benchmark for students seeking access into world-leading business schools and MBA programs.

Types of GMAT Exams

There is only one main version of the GMAT exam:

GMAT Focus Edition

The GMAT Focus Edition is the new and shorter version of the classic GMAT. The GMAT Focus Edition is a test that is meant to assess talents of highest usefulness at business school and in the workplace. The new format prioritises three key sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights.

Test Formats

Computer-Based Test (CBT):

Taken at authorised test centres or home via online proctoring. Provides quicker scheduling and scoring in 5–7 business days.

Format of the GMAT Test

The GMAT Focus Edition has three components, each of which addresses various skill sets necessary to succeed in business school:

Quantitative Reasoning

Quant section is 45 minutes and has 21 questions. It assesses the quantitative reasoning ability, quantitative problem-solving, and graphic information interpretation. No calculator is available for this section.

Verbal Reasoning

It is 45 minutes and has 23 questions. It assesses the capability to read and comprehend written text, reason and analyse arguments, and revise written text to standard written English.

Data Insights

A 45-minute section with 20 questions that tests a candidate's ability to interpret data from various sources, such as tables, graphs, and text. It requires data literacy, reasoning, and analysis.

Understanding GMAT Scores

The range of GMAT Focus Edition scores is from 205 to 805. Every section of the Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights sections is scored separately and then a combined score is calculated. These scores are calibrated to estimate business school success academically.

Most prestigious MBA schools ask for scores of about 640 to 750, but that differs from college to college.
