Structure And Content
The exam is conducted in four different tiers and includes both, CBT (Computer-based test) and traditional Pen and Paper Tests. Tier 1 and Tier 2 are CBTs while Tier 3 is a pen and paper test. Tier 4 is intended at testing the computer-driven skills of the candidate.
Tier 1
Tier 1 will have four sections with 100 questions worth 200 marks. The time available is 60 minutes (can be extended up to 80 minutes for the differently-abled/Divyang candidates). It is a computer-based test (CBT) and all the questions are fully objective. The four sections in Tier 1 are:

Tier 2
Tier 2 will have four different papers of 200 marks each. The allotted time for these papers is 2 hours each. The four papers in this Tier are:
Paper 1 and Paper 2 are mandatory for all the positions offered. Paper 3 will be applicable for people applying for the position of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO). Paper 4 is meant for those who have applied for the position of Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer. The candidates who are shortlisted based on their performance in Tier 1 will only be eligible for papers 3 and 4 of Tier 2.

Tier 3
Tier 3 is a subjective paper that tests the candidate’s language proficiency skills and ability to communicate. You have the option to choose between Hindi and English. Grammar and Writing skills are the key areas that you need to brush up on for this segment.

CPT: The aim of this test is at checking the candidate’s proficiency in MS Office. This test is applicable for the candidates applying for the position of CSS, MEA, Inspector (CE), Inspector (PO), Inspector (Examiner).
Both these tests are just qualifying in nature and do not have any marking specifications. Candidates who score well in Tier 1, 2 and 3, qualifying Tier 4 will go through the SSC CGL and be rewarded by their desired position.
